Company Description
Inishowen Traditional Singers’ Circle (Ciorcal Amhránaíocht Traidisiúnta Inis Eoghain) is a community‑driven organisation dedicated to preserving and celebrating the English‑language song tradition of the Inishowen Peninsula, County Donegal. Founded in the 1980s by local teachers and singers, the Circle records, archives and promotes the rich repertoire that survives in families and among older singers across the region.
The Circle’s core activities include the island’s longest‑running annual festival of traditional singing, monthly local singing sessions on the second Friday of each month, and a dedicated trad choir that arranges Inishowen songs for group performance. It also runs talks, lectures and special projects such as the ITSC Digitisation and Heritage Council initiatives, and publishes recordings and written material featuring notable singers like Roseanne McGonigle and Dan McGonigle. Recent highlights include the online streaming of the film *It’s a Fine Thing to Sing* via the Irish Film Institute, offering wider access to the Circle’s vibrant musical heritage.
