The Sathya Sai Donkey Sanctuary Company Limited by Guarantee is a charitable organisation dedicated to providing a safe haven for old, injured, abandoned, neglected and abused donkeys – and, where needed, other equines such as horses and ponies. Founded in 1991, the sanctuary offers long‑term care, rehabilitation and a peaceful environment where these animals can live out their lives with dignity, away from the pressures of modern, profit‑driven agriculture.

Key services include a fully‑managed foster scheme, individual sponsorship opportunities and a range of educational resources such as a donkey‑quiz, poetry and information on equine poisoning. The sanctuary also welcomes donations of money or feedstuffs, and it maintains an extensive image gallery and seasonal newsletters to keep supporters informed. All activities are overseen by a board of trustees, and the recent transition to a company limited by guarantee secures the sanctuary’s future.

Nestled in the spectacular countryside beside the Carrowkeel Megalithic Site at Castlebaldwin, County Sligo, the sanctuary is easily reached from the N4 and offers visitor hours on weekends, providing the public with a chance to meet the gentle residents and experience the tranquillity of the grounds.
