Dark Sky Island Company Limited By Guarantee, trading as Dark Sky Ireland, is a national, cross-border partnership of stakeholder groups that came together in October 2018 to champion the protection of Ireland's dark-sky heritage. Their core mission is to raise public awareness of light pollution and to promote responsible lighting through education, research and the development of a national policy and strategy - a vital effort in the absence of specific legislation.

The organisation delivers a range of practical resources for citizens, schools and local authorities, including the "How dark is your sky?" tool that lets users measure light pollution in their own area. Dark Sky Ireland also curates and supports designated dark-sky sites such as the Mayo Dark Sky Park, Kerry Dark Sky Reserve and the OM Dark Sky Park & Observatory, and it organises high-profile events like the International Artificial Light at Night (ALAN 2025) conference in Westport. Recent recognitions include being named SDG Champions for 2025-2027.

Serving communities across the whole island, Dark Sky Ireland works with volunteers, educators and policy makers to ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy Ireland's spectacular night skies.
