IRISH PEN / PEN NA HÉIREANN

Irish PEN / PEN na hÉireann is the island‑wide centre for writers, readers and literary advocates, relaunched in November 2020 following the merger of the original Irish PEN and the Freedom to Write Campaign. As a volunteer‑run organisation, it champions Irish literature both at home and abroad while defending the right of writers everywhere to express themselves responsibly, in line with the international PEN charter.

The association promotes literature in and about Ireland through a range of activities – from campaigning for freedom of expression to publishing a regular newsletter and organising events that showcase Irish voices on the global stage. Its Board, drawn from respected authors and literary professionals, oversees initiatives that support writers, raise public awareness of literary issues and foster cross‑border cultural exchange.

Operating across the whole of Ireland, Irish PEN / PEN na hÉireann welcomes members from all backgrounds, offering a supportive network for established and emerging writers alike. With active social‑media channels and a commitment to advocacy, the organisation provides a vital platform for the protection and celebration of Irish literary heritage.
