IFRAH FOUNDATION

Ifrah Foundation is a grassroots, frontline NGO founded by Ifrah Ahmed with the singular aim of eliminating Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Somalia and beyond. The organisation tackles gender-based violence through a three-pillar approach - advocacy, awareness-raising and community empowerment - and uses media campaigning to shift the narrative around FGM in Somali society. Its flagship Dear Daughter Campaign brings these pillars together, mobilising community activists, amplifying survivor voices and lobbying for legislative change.

The foundation's work is evidence-based: quantitative and qualitative data guide programme design and help measure impact. In 2022-2023 the charity trained 665 community activists who now act as champions against FGM in their localities. Every donation is channelled directly into the three pillars of action, supporting advocacy efforts, educational outreach and the empowerment of women and girls to ensure that no one suffers from FGM. By combining grassroots mobilisation with strategic media outreach, Ifrah Foundation is driving a decisive, sustainable shift towards the absolute abandonment of FGM.
