DUBLIN STREET PASTORS

Dublin Street Pastors is a volunteer-led community initiative that brings together Christians from churches of all denominations to make the streets of Dublin safer and more welcoming. Trained volunteers, known as Street or Prayer Pastors, patrol the city's nightlife from 10 pm to 4 am on Saturdays, offering a friendly presence, listening ear and practical assistance to anyone in need. Their work extends to special events such as Junior and Leaving Certificate nights, Rag Week and St Patrick's Day, where they help maintain a calm, secure atmosphere.

Operating in close partnership with An Garda Síochána, the local council and other statutory agencies, Dublin Street Pastors collaborates with a wide network of community groups to respond quickly to issues of crime, anti-social behaviour and vulnerable individuals on the streets. The programme, launched in May 2019, is open to anyone over 18 and provides a tangible way for ordinary Christians to live out their faith through service, compassion and the "eyes and heart of Jesus" in areas where the church is rarely seen. By acting as beacons on the city's streets, they help create a more caring, connected Dublin for all.
