Company Description
Justice for Magdalenes Research (JFMR) is an independent Irish organisation dedicated to uncovering, documenting and disseminating the history of the Magdalene Laundries. By bringing together scholars from disciplines such as history, law, archaeology, criminology and heritage management, JFMR produces rigorous research that challenges official narratives and highlights the lasting impact of these institutions on survivors and Irish society. The group's core activity is the publication of scholarly works that combine archival investigation with oral testimony, most recently *A Dublin Magdalene Laundry: Donnybrook and Sburys* and *Ireland and the Magdalene Laundries: A Campaign for Justice*.
Beyond publishing, JFMR actively campaigns for legislative change, urging politicians to support records-preservation bills and to provide survivors with full access to their personal files. The organisation makes its source material freely available through an online archive, supplies media kits and book flyers, and donates all authors' royalties to the charity Empowering People in Care. By partnering with bodies such as the Adoption Rights Alliance and the Clann Project, JFMR amplifies the voices of survivors and works towards restorative justice for the women and girls who endured the Magdalene system.
