Places of Sanctuary Ireland (PoSI) – Company Limited by Guarantee

Places of Sanctuary Ireland is a national network that brings together community groups, schools, universities, libraries, churches, local authorities, businesses and other organisations to foster a culture of welcome and inclusiveness across every sphere of Irish society. Its core aim is to ensure that people seeking sanctuary feel safe, are met with genuine hospitality and have genuine opportunities to participate in community life.

PoSI operates through a series of streams – Universities, Schools, Libraries of Sanctuary, Sanctuary Ambassadors, Sanctuary in Faith, Sanctuary in Nature & Heritage and the Dublin City of Sanctuary programme – delivering resources, training and events such as the annual “Dialogue of Friendship”. The organisation is independent of political and religious parties, but is linked to the wider City of Sanctuary movement founded in the UK in 2005.

Its beneficiaries are newcomers – refugees, asylum‑seekers and other migrants – as well as the broader Irish community, which benefits from the diverse skills, voices and cultural contributions that a welcoming society nurtures.
