Company Description
Free Legal Advice Centres (FLAC) is an independent human-rights organisation committed to realising equal access to justice for everyone in Ireland. By operating a national telephone information line and a network of advice centres, FLAC provides free, specialist guidance on a wide range of legal issues, from civil legal aid and social-welfare law to debt, consumer credit and public-interest matters.
The charity's work is driven by a series of priority areas that seek systemic reform: improving state provision of civil legal aid, making the welfare system fairer and more transparent, championing fair debt-recovery processes, and ensuring consistent standards for consumer lending. FLAC also presses for robust human-rights protections and promotes the principle that access to the law is a fundamental right.
In addition to direct client support, FLAC engages in policy advocacy, research and public education, exemplified by its partnership with Trinity College Dublin's School of Law for the "Civil Legal Aid: From Review to Reform" conference and its recent representation of a client in a disability-discrimination case. Through donations and volunteer involvement, FLAC continues to expand its impact across the Republic of Ireland.
