Company Description
Special Olympics Ireland is the national organisation that delivers year-round sports training, competition and developmental programmes for almost 7,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities each year. By offering a supportive environment where participants can build physical fitness, showcase courage and experience joy, the charity creates lasting friendships among athletes, families and the wider community.
The programme portfolio includes the Young Athletes Programme for children aged 4-12, the Motor Activities Training Programme (MATP) for individuals with profound intellectual disability and complex support needs, and the Athletes Passport - a resource that helps clubs understand each athlete's preferences, communication style and sensory requirements. In addition, Special Olympics Ireland runs the flagship Summer Games, a four-day inclusive event featuring athletics, football, golf and health-screening festivals, as well as virtual FUN challenges and a robust volunteer network that welcomes just one hour a week of support.
Serving athletes and clubs across the Republic of Ireland, Special Olympics Ireland also provides tools to locate local clubs, offers safeguarding training for volunteers and celebrates its impact through regular news updates and annual reports.
