Company Description
The Irish Penal Reform Trust (IPRT) is an independent advocacy organisation dedicated to building a just and humane criminal-justice system in Ireland, where imprisonment is truly a last resort. Drawing on research, policy analysis and the voices of those directly affected, IPRT campaigns for alternatives to custody, reforms to sentencing and better conditions for people in prison.
A core part of its work is the Action for Children and Families of Prisoners Network, which provides a unified voice for families, and the production of clear, easy-to-read explainers on Community Service Orders, Conditional Discharges, custodial and deferred sentences, fines and life sentences. IPRT also publishes regular reports, submits evidence to Oireachtas committees, and engages with the Office of the Inspector of Prisons and international bodies such as the Council of Europe's Committee for the Prevention of Torture.
Supported by a growing membership, the Trust keeps the public informed through newsletters, annual reports and media appearances, highlighting key statistics on prison populations, costs and conditions, and inviting people to join the movement for lasting reform.
