Irish Wildbird Conservancy (Cairde Eanlaith Eireann)

Irish Wildbird Conservancy, trading as BirdWatch Ireland, is the island's largest independent conservation organisation. Founded in 1968, it now boasts more than 15 000 members and a network of over 30 local branches that unite volunteers, researchers and bird-enthusiasts across the country. Its core mission is the protection of wild birds and their habitats, and it delivers this through a blend of species- and habitat-focused projects, advocacy work, scientific research, and public education.

The charity runs a suite of citizen-science initiatives, including the Irish Garden Bird Survey, the Hen Harrier appeal, and the Irish Starling Murmuration Survey, inviting the public to record sightings and help monitor key populations. BirdWatch Ireland also produces the "In Your Nature" podcast, offers teacher-training resources, manages a national reserve network and the renowned Cape Clear Bird Observatory, and operates a shop whose proceeds fund its conservation work.
