Blackshell Farm Limited is a certified organic mussel farm operating in the pristine waters of Clew Bay, Westport, Co. Mayo. Specialising in rope-grown cotton mussels, the company cultivates high-quality, additive-free seafood while also producing a biodegradable mussel mesh that supports healthy growth.

The farm's sustainable approach is evident in every aspect of its operation. A zero-waste policy sees floats made from recycled plastics and second-hand parts used wherever possible, while undersized mussels are re-sown to reach full maturity. With a focus on fuel efficiency, Blackshell Farm can harvest around 80 tonnes of mussels for each tonne of diesel consumed, and it is actively developing greener methods for producing its mussel mesh. Their commitment to environmental stewardship has been recognised with the Aquaculture, Environmental and Social Responsibility Award from BIM, Ireland's Seafood Development Agency.
