PEATLANDS AND PEOPLE FOUNDATION

Peatlands and People Foundation is a seven‑year LIFE Integrated Project dedicated to restoring and rehabilitating Ireland’s mid‑land peatlands while simultaneously fostering a green economy. Through three interlinked pillars – ecological restoration, a business‑accelerator programme and an immersive visitor experience – the foundation brings together local communities, researchers, industry partners and policy makers to generate and share practical solutions for climate action and ecosystem health.

The organisation’s core services include hands‑on peatland restoration work, support for start‑ups and social enterprises that develop sustainable peat‑related innovations, and the design of educational visitor attractions that showcase the value of healthy wetlands. It also runs consultations, outreach events such as Sphagnum Outreach Days and Green Open Nights, and offers research opportunities, including a PhD on CO₂ flux modelling under the EPA‑funded AIMINGPEAT project. By operating across the Irish midlands and collaborating at regional, national and international levels, Peatlands and People provides a platform for individuals, communities and businesses to engage directly in peatland stewardship and climate‑resilient development.
