BALBRIGGAN SUSTAINABLE ENERGY COMMUNITY COMPANY LIMITED BY GUARANTEE

Balbriggan Sustainable Energy Community (SEC) is a community‑led, not‑for‑profit organisation dedicated to building an energy‑efficient and climate‑resilient future for the town of Balbriggan. Established under the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, the SEC produced a comprehensive Energy Master Plan in April 2024, which now guides local initiatives ranging from home‑energy savings and solar‑panel adoption to electric‑vehicle promotion.

The SEC’s core activities centre on knowledge sharing, practical project delivery and partnership development. It runs educational outreach through its website, social media and the Balbriggan Library, while spearheading tangible upgrades such as retrofitting Balbriggan Meals on Wheels and the local football club, installing a cargo‑bike locker for the Tidy Towns programme, and creating a biodiversity zone on St Peter and Paul’s Church grounds. In collaboration with EU partners and the SEAI Community Enabling Framework, the SEC is also preparing a feasibility study for a grid‑scale renewable energy scheme and co‑hosting a webinar with Swift Conservation Ireland on the wildlife impacts of building retrofits.
