Company Description
The Irish Horse Re-homing Programme (IHRP) was founded in 2014 to give a lifeline to horses and ponies facing impoundment and death. Operating as a company limited by guarantee, IHRP achieved charitable status in 2020 and now focuses on rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing healthy equines from a range of circumstances, including owner surrenders when space permits. Each animal is assessed for health, soundness and temperament, ensuring that the matches made with new owners are both safe and lasting.
IHRP's core service is the careful re-homing process, which pairs rescued horses and ponies with suitable caretakers across Ireland. The organisation also runs a small shop to support its work and welcomes sponsorship of individual ponies, helping to bridge the gap between grant funding and the €2,500-per-month operating costs. Based in County Offaly, IHRP is supported by an annual Animal Welfare Grant from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, reflecting its vital role in equine welfare throughout the country.
