Company Description
Celtic Interconnector Designated Activity Company is the joint venture that is delivering the first high‑voltage direct‑current (HVDC) electricity link between France and Ireland. Backed by RTE, France’s transmission system operator, and its Irish counterpart EirGrid, the project creates a trans‑national conduit for renewable power, bolstering security of supply, supporting Europe’s climate targets and facilitating a more integrated European electricity market.
The company’s core activity centres on the design, construction and commissioning of the under‑sea and underground cable system, as well as the on‑shore conversion stations that will house the transformers and other electrical equipment. By employing HVDC technology, Celtic Interconnector minimises losses over the long distance, enabling a smooth flow of clean energy between the two nations and helping to decarbonise the wider European grid.
Serving national grid operators, renewable‑energy developers and ultimately the end‑consumer, Celtic Interconnector is recognised as an EU‑labelled e‑Highway project and a key element of the French, Irish and European ten‑year network development plans.
