The Prison Officers' Association (POA) is the national trade-union body that represents prison officers across the 26 counties of the Republic of Ireland. From entry-level Prison Officer up to Deputy Governor, the POA advocates on behalf of its members, negotiating pay, conditions and safety issues with the Department of Justice and other public-service partners. Its structure combines local branches in every prison or detention centre with a national Executive and an eight-member Administrative Council that oversees day-to-day operations.

Key services include collective bargaining, industrial representation, a dedicated credit union, a medical-aid society and a range of welfare initiatives designed to support officers and their families. The Association also provides a strong voice in policy discussions, as reflected in its regular reports and conferences, and maintains a robust information network through its Information Officer and online resources. Headquartered in Dublin, the POA serves a broad membership base while remaining firmly rooted in the communities it protects.
