Company Description
Mountbellew Heritage & Tourism Network Ltd is a volunteer‑run, non‑profit company limited by guarantee dedicated to safeguarding and celebrating the natural and built heritage of Mountbellew and its surrounding countryside in County Galway. Guided by its mission “to research, conserve and enhance the natural and built heritage of Mountbellew and its environs, for the benefit of the area,” the organisation brings together local volunteers, historians and tourism specialists to protect historic assets and promote sustainable, activity‑based tourism.
The network’s flagship initiative is the Mountbellew Walled Garden & Amenities Project, which aims to rejuvenate the 18th‑century walled garden and adjoining woodlands on the former Bellew estate. By restoring this 4.2‑acre heritage site, the group creates a new community amenity, complements existing recreational attractions and draws visitors to the region. Additional activities include producing a detailed Mountbellew Pocket Guide, creating video and drone content that showcases the area’s landscape, and conducting research into local history such as the story of the 1852 assisted emigration of orphan girls. Through these efforts, Mountbellew Heritage & Tourism Network serves residents, heritage enthusiasts and tourists alike, fostering a vibrant sense of place and rural development.
