SOUTH EAST RADIOTHERAPY TRUST, COMPANY LIMITED BY GUARANTEE

South East Radiotherapy Trust (SERT) is a charitable company limited by guarantee that has been providing free, confidential transport for cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy at the UPMC Whitfield Cancer Centre in Waterford since 2005. Celebrating its 20-year anniversary in 2025, the volunteer-run service covers the South East, picking up patients from collection points in Waterford City, Clonmel, Dungarvan, Kilkenny, Wexford and South Tipperary and delivering them safely to and from their appointments.

SERT operates a fleet of five vehicles, each capable of carrying up to eight passengers, and relies on a dedicated roster of more than 150 volunteers to run the service. Funding comes primarily from donations and a range of fundraising events-including golf classics, marathons and community drives-supplemented by an HSE grant that helps cover fuel costs. By removing the logistical barrier of travel, SERT enables patients to focus on treatment and recovery, delivering a vital lifeline to the South East's cancer community.
