IRISH COASTAL ENVIRONMENT GROUP COASTWATCH

Coastwatch Europe (CWE) is an international network of environmental groups dedicated to protecting Ireland’s coastal resources and promoting sustainable use of the marine environment. Based in Dublin, the organisation works through citizen‑science surveys, public workshops and targeted research to ensure that coastal planning and management are informed by robust, community‑driven data.

Key activities include the annual Coastwatch Shore Survey, which in 2025 gathered data from over 600 survey units, and specialised events such as marine‑litter workshops, seagrass restoration sessions and water‑pollution prevention briefings. These initiatives are supported by a range of partners, including the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, EU Horizon research programmes, and local authorities such as Dun Laoghaire and Galway City Councils.

By fostering public participation and delivering actionable insights, Coastwatch Europe serves coastal communities, policymakers, researchers and anyone with a stake in Ireland’s shoreline, helping to safeguard the coast for present and future generations.
