Company Description
Maigue Rivers Trust is a community-driven environmental organisation dedicated to protecting, enhancing and cherishing the rivers and lakes of the Maigue catchment. Its vision is to see the Maigue become a world-class resource that is enjoyed by all, while its mission focuses on safeguarding water quality, biodiversity and the cultural heritage of the landscape.
The Trust works across a 1,000 km² area that stretches from near Charleville in North Cork to the Shannon Estuary, covering much of County Limerick and parts of Counties Tipperary and Cork. Its activities include water-quality monitoring and remedial projects such as locally-led agricultural measures and a pilot scheme to eradicate invasive Giant Hogweed. It also promotes sustainable recreation-kayaking, fishing, walking and cycling-by improving river access, and runs education and awareness programmes that link economic, social and environmental sustainability. Community engagement is central to its approach, with regular consultations, school outreach and volunteer initiatives that empower locals to manage their waterways responsibly.
