GAS NETWORKS IRELAND

Gas Networks Ireland is the operator of the Republic's gas transmission system, delivering a safe and reliable supply of natural gas to more than 720 000 homes, businesses and public-sector customers across the country. The organisation's core mission is to "move Ireland's energy", ensuring day-to-day reliability while preparing the network for a low-carbon future.

Key services include connecting new and existing customers to the gas grid, handling online meter readings and billing enquiries, and providing specialist support for gas-related projects such as the integration of renewable gases. Gas Networks Ireland is actively developing a renewables-ready network, linking anaerobic digestion facilities to inject biomethane, and exploring the use of green hydrogen, compressed natural gas (CNG) and bio-CNG for heavy-goods vehicles and bus fleets. These initiatives aim to decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors-including transport, agriculture, industry and power generation-and to achieve a net-zero carbon gas network by 2045.
