Company Description
The Irish Architectural Archive is Ireland's national repository for architectural drawings, photographs, and related documentation, preserving the built heritage of the island from the eighteenth to the mid-twentieth century. Established in 1976, the Archive curates a rich programme of exhibitions, publications and public events, and recently marked its 50th anniversary with a series of special projects running from April 2026.
Key services include the digitisation of historic collections - such as the Guinness Drawings Collection, now accessible through the IAA Catalogue - and the provision of specialist research resources like the Dictionary of Irish Architects, which offers biographical and bibliographical data on architects, builders and craftsmen active between 1720 and 1940. The Archive also runs an engaging schools programme, delivering primary-level workshops that introduce young learners to Ireland's architectural legacy. In addition, its elegant rooms in No. 45, Merrion Square, are available for conferences, lectures and private functions, accommodating up to 200 guests.
Through these activities, the Irish Architectural Archive serves scholars, designers, educators and the wider public, fostering a deeper appreciation of Ireland's architectural history.
