Company Description
Sickle Cell Society Ireland (SCSI) is the official umbrella organisation for all sickle-cell support groups across the island. A patient- and parent-led non-governmental organisation, SCSI works at local, regional, national and European Union levels to improve outcomes for people living with sickle-cell disease (SCD) and their families.
The society delivers a wide range of services, from one-to-one parent support and family-focused initiatives such as Parents Awareness Day and Easter Treats, to public-awareness campaigns that utilise workshops, flyers, videos and social-media outreach. It also runs the SCi-fy youth programme, empowering young people affected by SCD to become leaders in advocacy, and partners with academic institutions and research bodies to advance knowledge and human-rights-focused studies. In collaboration with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, SCSI provides specialist education for over 350 trainee doctors each year, and has directly benefited more than 600 clinic attendees and thousands of individuals through school and community visits.
Based in Dublin, the organisation's impact includes raising over €5,000 for Our Lady's Children's Hospital Crumlin and supporting more than 3 200 trainee doctors, underscoring its commitment to a caring, inclusive society for all affected by sickle-cell disease.
