GALWAY ARCHAEOLOGICAL FIELD SCHOOL LIMITED

Galway Archaeological Field School Limited is an educational organisation that offers immersive, hands‑on training in the archaeology and architecture of medieval Ireland. Based in Oughterard, Co. Galway, the school designs short‑term field courses that allow students to explore the rich tapestry of castles, churches and monastic sites scattered across the Irish landscape.

The school’s curriculum includes a two‑week programme on “Castles, Cloisters and Churches: The Architecture of Medieval Ireland”, a four‑week “Introduction to Archaeological Excavation”, and a further four‑week module on “Recording Methods in Archaeological Survey and Excavation”. Courses are taught by professional archaeologists, feature small class sizes and on‑site supervision, and can be combined for longer study periods. Successful participants may also receive academic credit from one of Ireland’s leading universities, while enjoying comfortable shared accommodation in a vibrant university city on the west coast.
