Company Description
The National Council for People with Disabilities (NCPD) is Ireland's sole independent, cross-disability organisation, operating as a company limited by guarantee and holding charitable status (Charity No 20227). Based at its national headquarters in Shannon, County Clare, NCPD works to place the needs of disabled people and their carers at the centre of public policy, influencing legislation, sectoral plans and service delivery across health, transport, housing, education and employment.
At a national level the Council engages directly with senior civil servants and government ministers, contributing to the implementation of the Disability Act 2005, the Equal Status Acts, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and a range of sectoral plans aimed at making public services, buildings and transport accessible. Locally, the Galway NCPD network represents disabled people on city and county access committees, social-housing panels, the regional FAS board, the HSE disability institutions board and other public bodies, providing advice, advocacy and information to individuals and groups.
Through its independent voice and collaborative approach, NCPD strives to ensure that all people with physical, intellectual, emotional or mental disabilities can influence the decisions that shape their lives and enjoy fuller participation in Irish society.
