Company Description
The Centre for Arthritis and Rheumatic Diseases (CARD) is a specialist rheumatology unit within St Vincent's University Hospital, recognised as a EULAR Centre of Excellence for research and education. Its primary mission is to support patients with early, inflammatory arthritis-including rheumatoid, psoriatic arthritis and vasculitis such as Giant Cell Arteritis-by delivering state-of-the-art treatment and clear, up-to-date information about their conditions.
CARD's research portfolio spans the full spectrum of translational science. Current projects focus on discovering biomarkers that flag individuals at risk of severe disease, developing novel therapeutics, and uncovering new inflammatory molecules using advanced laboratory models. The centre collaborates with industry partners on pre-clinical proof-of-concept studies and employs cutting-edge technologies-genetics, proteomics, transcriptomics-and sophisticated imaging techniques such as PET/CT and MRI to explore joint inflammation and metabolism. Through these endeavours, CARD aims to tailor the most relevant, personalised treatments for each patient.
