Ballisodare Composting Facility Limited is a community-driven operation that turns locally sourced green waste into a high-quality, peat-free compost. Built with the support of the Department of the Environment and run in partnership with Ballisodare Community Council and Sligo County Council, the facility diverts organic material away from landfill and creates a valuable growing medium for gardeners, growers and land managers across Sligo and the surrounding counties.

The plant accepts all types of green waste - from cut grass and hedge trimmings to other garden residues - and employs a windrow composting technique to produce a nutrient-rich product. The resulting compost is ideal as a soil additive, improving the organic content of over-worked or poor-quality soils, and works equally well as a potting mix for vegetables, ornamental plants and a range of horticultural applications.
