The Skibbereen Geriatric Society Ltd. is a voluntary organisation dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for older adults in Skibbereen and the surrounding district. Since its founding in 1970, the Society has grown from a modest three-day-a-week Meals on Wheels service into a comprehensive community hub that provides nutritious meals six days a week, a vibrant Luncheon Club, and a portfolio of thirty-three sheltered-accommodation flats across several sites, including the purpose-built Cara House.

Key services include the well-established Meals on Wheels programme, which delivers freshly prepared meals to seniors throughout the area, and a range of supported-living accommodation that offers secure, independent retirement living. The Society also operates a Luncheon Club that fosters social interaction and wellbeing among its members. With a dedicated team of seventeen staff, many on the Community Employment Scheme, the Society continues to rely on the generosity of local partners, the HSE, Cork County Council and FÁS to maintain its facilities.

The Society's commitment has been recognised with several community awards, notably the Cork County Council Mayor's Community Group West Cork Award in 2021 and the Muintir Skibbereen Credit Union Community & Neighbourhood Services Award in 2005.
