BLOOD BIKE WEST COMPANY LIMITED BY GUARANTEE

Blood Bike West Company Limited by Guarantee is an all-volunteer charitable organisation that provides a voluntary emergency transportation service across the West of Ireland. Operating through the night-time window of 7 pm to 7 am, the team delivers blood, blood samples, human breast-milk and other urgent medical supplies between hospitals, hospices, clinics, care homes and laboratories when no permanent service exists. All consignments are transported free of charge, helping health-care providers focus their limited resources on direct patient care and contributing to positive patient outcomes.

The service is delivered on specially-liveried motorcycles equipped with emergency lights, allowing rapid navigation through busy traffic. For larger or awkward items, and in adverse weather, a dedicated van-sponsored by Northgate Vehicle Hire-supplements the fleet. Blood Bike West is funded entirely by charitable donations and runs solely on the goodwill of volunteers, who are on call to receive advance notice of any urgent requirement. Donations can be made through the organisation's iDonate platform, and the group maintains an active presence on social media to keep the public informed of its lifesaving work.
