OWENINNY POWER DESIGNATED ACTIVITY COMPANY

Oweninny Power Designated Activity Company operates Ireland's largest on-shore wind farm, delivering 192 MW of clean electricity - enough to meet the average annual demand of roughly 140 000 homes and businesses. The Oweninny Wind Farm, a joint venture between ESB and BnM, was built in two stages: 29 turbines were installed in 2019 (Phase One) and a further 31 turbines entered commercial operation in 2023 (Phase Two). Situated on about 2 400 ha of former peat-harvesting land in North Mayo, the project helps the nation progress towards its target of 80 % renewable energy by 2030.

Beyond power generation, Oweninny is committed to the surrounding community. It administers a Community Benefit Fund that supports local initiatives, and it runs an educational scholarship scheme for residents. A purpose-built Visitor Interpretative Centre offers insight into the region's energy history, bog rehabilitation, and ecological heritage, providing an engaging experience for school groups and the public alike. Through these activities, Oweninny Power not only supplies sustainable electricity but also fosters social and environmental value across the North Mayo area.
