Company Description
The Gulf Centre for Human Rights (GCHR) is an independent, non-profit NGO that works to safeguard human-rights defenders across the MENA region. Founded in 2011 by activists operating in the Gulf and neighbouring states, GCHR is based in Lebanon and documents the challenges faced by journalists, internet activists and other civil-society actors. Its core mission is to ensure that everyone can work free from oppression and fear, promoting fundamental freedoms such as expression, association and peaceful assembly.
GCHR delivers a suite of specialised services: direct protection for at-risk defenders, awareness-raising campaigns that spotlight regional threats, advocacy through regional fora and international mechanisms, and networking opportunities that connect activists, partner organisations and social movements. The organisation also runs an Emergency Hub, offering over 100 resources to support the cyber, physical and psychological well-being of defenders. By partnering with a broad coalition of 27 organisations, GCHR amplifies the voices of those under pressure and creates a safer environment for human-rights work throughout the Gulf and wider MENA area.
