Company Description
Doagh Famine Village Limited is a unique heritage attraction that brings Ireland’s recent history to life through immersive, guided tours. Based on the edge of the Wild Atlantic Way in County Donegal, the village showcases original thatched dwellings once home to the Doherty family, life‑size exhibits of famine evictions, water‑divining, Irish wakes and other customs, and a host of stories that span from the Great Famine of the 1840s to modern day.
Visitors are led by knowledgeable guides—some of whom actually lived in the historic houses—to explore the village’s outdoor patio, taste locally foraged coastal foods, and sample home‑made poitín, all included with tea, coffee and a snack. The experience is rounded off with stunning views of Doagh Beach and Europe’s largest sand dunes, making it an ideal stop for families, school groups and international tourists alike.
Open from 17 March to 12 October, Doagh Famine Village offers daily tours lasting 30‑45 minutes, with free entry for children under four and affordable rates for adults and older children. It provides a thought‑provoking, often humour‑filled journey that both educates and entertains anyone keen to understand the resilience and spirit of Irish life.
