DROGHEDA DISTRICT SUPPORT 4 OLDER PEOPLE

Drogheda District Support 4 Older People (DDS 4 OP) is a charitable organisation dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for senior citizens across Drogheda and its surrounding district. The charity offers a practical "Care and Repair" service that tackles small household and garden tasks - from fitting free smoke alarms for those over 65 to spring-cleaning and grass cutting - all delivered at the lowest possible cost.

Beyond hands-on assistance, DDS 4 OP runs a vibrant befriending scheme, pairing volunteers with older adults for companionship and support, and a language-exchange programme that enables seniors to help new migrants practise conversational English. The group also celebrates community spirit through initiatives such as the trishaw service for older residents, Daffodil Day deliveries, and regular coffee mornings and Easter raffles that bring people together.

Recognised for its impact, the organisation received the Community Age-Friendly Initiative award in 2023 and benefits from grants that have funded essential IT equipment for its distribution centre. Through a network of dedicated volunteers, DDS 4 OP continues to foster an inclusive, age-friendly community where older people can thrive.
