The Irish Down Syndrome Sporting Organisation (IDSSO) is a not‑for‑profit company limited by guarantee that exists to champion sport for people with Down syndrome. Born from the realisation in 2001 that swimmers with Down syndrome were being outclassed by athletes with other learning disabilities, the organisation now provides dedicated swimming and athletics programmes where participants can train, compete and thrive alongside peers who share their unique abilities.

IDSSO runs a competitive swimming team and an athletics team, offering regular training sessions, membership support and entry to national and international championships – including the Down Syndrome International & World Championships. The body also manages membership renewals, liaises with sponsors and circulates news and results to keep its community informed and motivated. By fostering an inclusive, supportive environment, IDSSO enables athletes with Down syndrome to achieve personal bests, build confidence and enjoy the camaraderie of sport.
