NORTH EAST CANCER RESEARCH AND EDUCATION TRUST

North East Cancer Research and Education Trust (NECRET) is a charitable organisation dedicated to advancing cancer research, improving patient care and providing education across the North East of Ireland. Working closely with the Oncology & Haematology Department at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, NECRET channels community support into vital research projects covering lung, ovarian, breast and bowel cancers, including the development of a new lung-cancer diagnostic tool, a cancer-gene sequencing device and funding for a full-time scientist. Their research contributions have appeared in fifteen internationally recognised journals.

Beyond research, NECRET delivers practical support and training: specialist nursing communication programmes, equipment such as portable computers, centrifuges and heat blankets, and the provision of 400 "Blankets of Care". The Trust also runs a vibrant fundraising calendar - from the Ultimate Golf Giveaway and the Kilmoon Barn Dance to the annual Message of Hope event - engaging volunteers, donors and ambassadors like GAA legend Sean Boylan. All proceeds are reinvested to enhance treatment outcomes and to offer hope and information to patients, families and healthcare staff throughout the region.
