Arae Company Limited by Guarantee administers the Architects Register Admission Examination (ARAE), a nationally accredited pathway that enables experienced architectural professionals in Ireland to gain formal recognition and register under the Building Control Act 2007. Accredited by the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland, the ARAE validates practical knowledge, design competence and professional skill through a rigorous three-stage process.

The first stage verifies seven years of relevant architectural experience, while the second assesses design competence via written examinations and a design project. The final stage evaluates practice competence, covering applied knowledge, legislation and procurement through written tests and oral assessments. In addition to the core exam, Arae is introducing a professional practice examination in 2026 and an Advanced Entry route for recent graduates, expanding opportunities for both seasoned practitioners and emerging talent.
