The National Board for Safeguarding Children (COIMIRCE) is a registered charity dedicated to protecting children within the Catholic Church in Ireland. Its purpose is to promote a safe and welcoming environment for all children and young people, supporting the Church’s commitment to robust child‑protection practices.
COIMIRCE provides a comprehensive suite of services, including:
* Advice and policy guidance – up‑to‑date safeguarding standards, guidance on reporting concerns and best‑practice resources.
* Training and support – face‑to‑face events, e‑learning modules and specialist workshops for clergy, staff, volunteers and lay members.
* National Case Management Committee – coordinated response to safeguarding concerns and allegations.
* Monitoring and practice reviews – regular assessment of safeguarding implementation across dioceses.
* Publications and resources – newsletters, research reports, theological reflections and external links to support continuous learning.
* Associate membership – opportunities for individuals and organisations to engage with the Board’s work.
The Board’s team comprises the National Office staff, the National Case Management Committee, independent reviewers and qualified tutors. By offering guidance, training and oversight, COIMIRCE serves the Catholic Church, its personnel and, ultimately, the children and young people entrusted to its care.
