IRISH DRAUGHT HORSE BREEDERS ASSOCIATION LIMITED

The Irish Draught Horse Breeders Association Limited is the national body dedicated to preserving and promoting the integrity of the Irish Draught breed. Working in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Marine and Horse Sport Ireland, the Association brings together a network of breeders from across the island to safeguard this indigenous, light‑draught horse renowned for its strength, intelligence and gentle temperament.

Key activities include maintaining the stud‑book and overseeing the 2024 Irish Draught Genetic Diversity Report, which recognises rare bloodlines and provides automatic Class 1 status for qualifying mares. The Association also organises a full calendar of regional and national shows, judges’ assessments and educational events, and offers resources such as the Irish Draught Stallion Book and annual year‑books. Through links with international breed societies, registration authorities and equestrian sporting bodies, it supports breeders, owners and riders at every level.
