Company Description
The Irish Uplands Forum (IUF) is a voluntary body, founded in 1995, that brings together farmers, recreational users, ecologists, geographers, tourism operators and other countryside service providers to champion a partnership approach to the sustainable management of Ireland's upland areas, both north and south. By facilitating meetings, workshops and study visits, IUF helps local communities identify and address the economic, social and environmental challenges that affect their upland districts.
Key activities include providing practical support to established and start-up community groups, undertaking research on biodiversity, landscape and socio-economic issues, and operating a resource centre on sustainable upland development. IUF also contributes to national policy as an active member of Comhairle na Tuaithe and collaborates with similar organisations abroad to promote community-based upland stewardship.
Based in Dublin, the Forum serves upland communities across the island, offering a network for knowledge-sharing, advocacy and collaborative projects that aim to preserve the beauty and resilience of Ireland's upland heritage.
