WESTPORT CIVIC TRUST

Westport Civic Trust is a community‑driven organisation dedicated to safeguarding and revitalising the built and natural heritage of West Mayo. By championing the preservation of historic buildings, landscapes and cultural assets, the Trust works to ensure that Westport’s unique character is protected for present and future generations.

The Trust’s core activity is an engaging public‑lecture programme, held each month from autumn through spring at the Westport Plaza Hotel. Free to members, these evening talks cover a wide range of topics—from the history of the Westport Workhouse and the siege of Jadotville to biodiversity, material culture and personal recollections of life in 1970s Westport. In addition to lectures, the Trust organises excursions and educational events that raise awareness of good planning standards and promote community involvement in heritage conservation.

Open to anyone with an interest in the region’s history, architecture, science and culture, Westport Civic Trust provides a welcoming platform for locals and visitors alike to learn, discuss and contribute to the ongoing renewal of Westport’s treasured environment.
