SAMARITANS IRELAND

Samaritans Ireland is a charitable organisation that offers a vital emotional-support lifeline to anyone in need across the island. Established in 1961, the service now operates from more than 20 locations in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, with a network of over 2,000 volunteers who answer roughly 1,500 calls each day - an average of more than 60 calls per hour.

The core service is a free, confidential telephone helpline (116 123) that provides a listening ear and practical help to callers at any time. In addition to the helpline, Samaritans runs community-focused initiatives such as "Brew Monday", encouraging people to reach out for a cuppa and a catch-up, and a range of fundraising and awareness campaigns that invite the public to support their work. Volunteers are welcomed to join the effort, gaining the chance to make a tangible difference in the lives of those who call.

Through these programmes, Samaritans Ireland strives to create a more compassionate society, offering a trusted point of contact for those experiencing distress and helping to turn moments of crisis into opportunities for hope.
