The nurse conducts a brief clinical assessment, gathering information on past medical history, symptom onset, location, aggravating and relieving factors, and allergies.

Based on this assessment, SouthDoc arranges the most appropriate care, which may involve a direct nurse consultation, referral to a treatment centre, or escalation to emergency services. All consultation notes are forwarded to the patient's regular GP the following morning, ensuring continuity of care.

The service operates by appointment only during evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays, providing a reliable safety net for patients across Ireland who need prompt medical attention outside normal practice hours.
