Company Description
Icomos Ireland is the Irish National Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), a UNESCO-appointed advisory body dedicated to the conservation and protection of cultural heritage worldwide. Established in 1984, the committee brings together roughly 100 experts-from archaeologists and historians to architects, planners and engineers-drawn from state heritage services, local authorities, museums, universities and private practice.
The organisation's core activity is to review and comment on nominations for UNESCO World Heritage status, as well as on sites on Ireland's tentative list, applying the ICOMOS Charters to ensure rigorous conservation standards. Icomos Ireland also facilitates knowledge-sharing through regular board meetings, open member gatherings and public talks, and it hosts international events such as the ICLAFI 2025 conference in Dublin, which explored cultural rights and community involvement in heritage management.
By uniting recognised specialists and emerging professionals, Icomos Ireland provides a vital platform for collaborative heritage stewardship across the island, championing best practice and fostering active engagement among its multidisciplinary membership.
