Company Description
The Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) is Ireland's oldest independent human-rights organisation, operating as a non-partisan, member-supported body that is completely free from government and corporate influence. Its core mission is to speak truth to power and to champion a fairer, freer Ireland by campaigning for laws, courts and policing that respect and uphold fundamental rights.
ICCL provides a range of practical resources and advocacy services, including the widely-used "Know Your Rights" guides - most recently a pioneering guide for trans and non-binary people - and regular updates on civil-rights developments. It runs targeted campaigns on police and justice reform, digital data protection, equality and inclusion, and it gathers evidence through surveys such as its recent study of arrests during peaceful protests. The organisation also trains and supports a national network of legal observers, offering quarterly training in partnership with the University of Galway for activists keen to monitor public-order policing.
Through membership, donations and volunteer involvement, ICCL invites the public to join its work, whether by becoming a legal observer, signing up for the mailing list, or contributing to its ongoing advocacy for human rights across Ireland.
