HEALTH ACTION OVERSEAS

Health Action Overseas (HAO) is an Irish-registered, not-for-profit organisation that works to transform the lives of young people with disability in Romania. Founded in 1991 as Babies of Romania and re-branded in 1994, HAO now operates through its Romanian partner, Fundatia Health Action Overseas, delivering community-based support that helps former institutional residents move into family-style homes, gain education and training, and secure sustainable employment.

The charity's core programmes include a Social Inclusion Programme, a Skills-Training Programme, a Social & Advocacy Network and a Parent/Carer Network. These initiatives provide direct, measurable impact by teaching independent-living skills, facilitating school and vocational courses, and offering ongoing mentorship for both young adults and their families. All services are grounded in a human-rights approach, ensuring that participants have equal access to community services, information, safe housing and protection from abuse.

Based in Ireland and operating across Romania, Health Action Overseas combines decades of experience with a collaborative, rights-focused model to empower disabled young people to lead full, active lives within their communities.
