Company Description
The Irish Bookmakers Association (IBA) is the recognised voice of Ireland's licensed gambling sector, representing a broad mix of operators from global brands to independent bookmakers. Established in 2005, the IBA works closely with government bodies, regulators and other stakeholders to shape a regulatory framework that balances consumer protection, responsible gambling, competition and innovation.
Central to the association's work is a firm commitment to safer betting. It has launched the Responsible Gambling Helpline, supported a nationwide network of counsellors, founded the Gambling Awareness Trust and organises Responsible Gambling Week each year. All funds collected from operators are passed directly to the Trust, which now backs more than 30 addiction-service providers across the country. In 2021 the IBA introduced the Safer Gambling Code, imposing an advertising watershed and banning credit-card betting to protect players.
Beyond safeguarding consumers, the IBA champions the economic contribution of the bookmaking industry, advocating for sensible taxation and licensing policies that preserve jobs, generate significant tax revenue and sustain local investment throughout Ireland.
