Company Description
Zero Waste Alliance Ireland (ZWAI) is an environmental non-governmental organisation dedicated to rethinking discard and disposal practices and advancing a circular economy in Ireland. Working at both national and EU levels, ZWAI drives policy initiatives and runs information campaigns that inspire individuals, festivals and community groups to close resource loops.
The alliance's flagship projects showcase practical, low-tech solutions: the Struvite Project recycles urine into a safe fertiliser, demonstrated at Éalú le Grá Festival 2025; a mobile biodigester converts festival food waste into nutrient-rich compost, as seen at Body & Soul 2023; and a forthcoming documentary highlights the climate-mitigating power of Irish seagrass. Through these initiatives, ZWAI provides hands-on workshops, educational resources and opportunities for volunteers, interns and members to get involved.
Open to anyone passionate about sustainability, ZWAI invites the public to join as members, donate, or collaborate on fund-raising ideas, helping to expand its impact across communities throughout the island.
