MISEAN CARA

Misean Cara is an international missionary network that places Irish-led religious and lay members at the forefront of development work in more than 50 countries. By partnering with local churches, NGOs and community groups, its members deliver climate-resilient livelihoods, quality education, accessible health services and human-rights training to the most vulnerable populations. In the past year the network reached 1.9 million people - over 127 000 accessed education, 1.1 million received health care, clean water and sanitation, 162 000 improved their earning potential, 1.4 million were educated on their rights and 74 000 benefitted from emergency assistance.

Projects span the globe, from basic literacy programmes in Brazil's Paraíba state and inclusive schools for deaf-blind children in Zambia, to free health-care for elders in Gaza and community-driven food-security initiatives in Peru. In Kenya, the Ruben Health Centre provides essential mother-and-child services, while in South Sudan the Jesuit Refugee Service supplies reusable masks and hand-washing stations for displaced families. Misean Cara's 2022-2026 strategy and its annual Climate Action Awards underscore a long-term, partnership-based approach that prioritises the furthest behind, supported by donors such as Irish Aid.
